It didn’t take long to book my “next” dude ranch trip and found a “Cowgirls Up” week scheduled at The Resort at Paws Up out of Missoula, Montana, and miraculously convinced my girlfriend (who is not that into horses) to go with me! This trip in late April brought us some rain and a light dusting of snow, but that didn’t keep us from a horseback ride in the rain, to a cattle drive in the chilly air and even squeezed in a fat-tire bike ride up to their new section being built, the new Green O area of The Resort.
Paws Up is a 37,000-acre ranch that features more than 100 miles of trails and 10 miles of access to the legendary Blackfoot River. During the weekend, roundup participants can herd cattle across the land Lewis & Clark explored, fine-tune artistic skills or opt for a myriad of additional wilderness adventures.
All came together to embrace their inner cowgirl for a weekend filled with activities and a chance to mingle with the Cowgirl Hall of Famers. The Cowgirl Spring Roundup women spent most of their lives on the back of the horse, while others enjoy the Western lifestyle from afar and wanted to be a cowgirl for the weekend. Like myself, many women were here for the first time, some on their annual "girls trip," solos and veterans attending it year after year.
For accommodations, we stayed in one of luxury homes and our own Lexus car! There were lots of cocktail
s and delicious dining throughout the event including s’mores around the fire!
